(KCCR) — Load restrictions are common on state and U-S highways in the spring as roads get soft with the melting of frost. However, the South Dakota Department of Transportation is issue load restrictions for sections of U-S Highway 183 in Tripp County. As of Wednesday, no overweight loads are being permitted on U-S 183 from the Highway 18/183 junction west of Winner and going north for 21 and a half miles to the White River or starting 14 miles south of Interstate 90 at Presho. Starting next week on June 23rd and lasting to August 31st at a minimum, load limits will be reduced on the stretch of U-S 183 from the White River to U-S Highway 18 to a maximum of seven tons per axle. That section of 183 is undergoing construction for pavement repair. Transportation officials are advising that all trucks take alternate routes to avoid Highway 183. The highway has heavy sections of surface breakup and gravel surfacing from reconstruction operations.
