ARGYLE, Texas – The Colorado women's golf team recorded two of its best rounds this season and is currently 10th after two rounds of The Bruzzy on Sunday.

Oklahoma State is currently the team leader at 19-under (557) after firing a 284 and a 273 and has a sizeable advantage on the field, leading the runner-up, North Texas (571), by 14 strokes.

The Buffs recorded an 8-over 296 in the first round at the 6,421-yard, par 72 Lantana Golf Club, which the fifth-best round they've shot this season. But they came back in the second round with a 292, shaving four strokes off for the second-best round this year, and are currently sitting at 12-over. Iowa State, which is currently ninth, is just four strokes in front of CU.

"Slowly but surely our team is getting better," Colorado coach Anne Kelly said. "We still are making too many 'easy mistakes', but we are learning and those are becoming fewer and fewer. We need to go out tomorrow and take advantage of the par 5's and hopefully get a couple of our players to shoot in the 60s."

Junior Malak Bouraeda recorded two solid rounds to lead the team on Sunday and is currently tied for 10th with a 1-under 143. Her first round was a 2-under 70 and it started well with four birdies in the first five holes to put her 4-under. She completed the back nine (she started on the 10th hole) with three pars but the final hole was a double-bogey, which put her at 2-under heading into the front nine. Her front nine were consistent as she recorded one birdie and one bogey, in addition to making par on the other seven holes to finish at 2-under, which put her in a tie for sixth.

Her second round was also strong as she fired a 73. Again starting on the 10th hole, she did well on the back nine sinking two birdies while recording one bogey and making six pars for the 1-under. On the front nine, Bouraeda had two bogeys as well as seven pars to finish 1-over.

Second for the Buffs is junior Alisha Lau. She is tied for 34th with a 3-over 147. Her scorecards from the first two rounds (75 and 72) were very good. Starting on the ninth hole, she sank a birdie right off the bat in round one. She would make par and sink another birdie on the next two holes, before having a tough time on No. 12 where she recorded a double. After that, she would collect herself and finish the round with four bogeys, nine pars and one more birdie to finish 3-over.

Her second round was very solid. She recorded a pair of bogeys but was able to offset them with a pair of birdies. She made par on the other 14 holes to finish the round even.

Senior Kirsty Hodgkins also had two nice rounds to start the tournament, hitting a 75 in the first 18 and improving to a 73 in the second round which has her tied for 39th. She had a bit of a rocky start in the morning as she recorded a bogey and a double to start on the seventh and eighth holes. But she rebounded on her third hole, the 342-yard, par 4 No. 9, as she sank her first birdie of the day. It was the only birdie of that round, but she would only record one other bogey in her first round as she would make par on every other hole.

The second started much better with a birdie and made par on the next two holes. Hodgkins would go on to record four bogeys and two more birdies, and would make par nine times to finish the round at 1-over.

Sophomore Ellie Gower is tied for 51st and is 6-over. She carded rounds of 76 and 74. She recorded two birdies and made par 12 times in addition to two bogeys and two doubles in the first round. The second round saw another two birdies, but this time she made par 13 times and had two bogeys and just one double.

Freshman Hailey Schalk saw improvement from her first round to her second as she carded a 78 in the first and a 76 in the second. The difference was a pair of birdies in her second round.

Oklahoma State's Lianna Bailey is currently in first. She recorded rounds of 69 and 66 to sit 9-under with one round left to play. She has a two-stroke lead on North Texas' Lauren Cox, who is 7-under (66-71—137). There is a three-way tie for third (141).

The final round will start Monday, March 29, at 7:30 a.m. MDT.
