MUSCATINE, Iowa – Two oversized loads will be making their way through Muscatine on Friday, April 2, from the Norbert F. Beckey Bridge to Highway 22 using Park Avenue and the U.S. 61 Bypass.
Diamond Heavy Hauling has notified the City of Muscatine that a heavy load measuring 18-feet wide and 240-feet long will be coming through the Muscatine Park Avenue 4-to-3 Conversion Project between 10:45 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. on Friday, April 2.
Drivers are urged to find alternate routes of travel as lane restrictions will be in place as the heavy load moves through Muscatine.
“Normally we would not have loads this large moving through when we have construction activity underway,” Pat Lynch, Muscatine City Engineer, said. “Planning for this event started last year and the contractor for the Park Avenue Project will be assisting Muscatine public safety personnel and Muscatine staff in the movement of the load.”
Diamond Heavy Hauling anticipates coming across the Mississippi River bridge (Highway 92) and then needing some time to articulate the right turn onto East 2nd Street before heading northbound on Park Avenue through the construction area. The heavy load will turn left onto U.S. 61 from the Park Avenue intersection and then right onto Highway 22 at the Cedar Street intersection.
Illinois State Police will escort the heavy load to the Mississippi River bridge with Iowa State Police taking over to escort the load on the Iowa side of the river.
A smaller wide load, a soil finisher measuring 14-feet by 25-feet will also be passing through Muscatine on Friday.
