WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah - Oregon State finished first in the afternoon session at Saturday's Pac-12 Championships with a score of 196.625. The Beavers finished fifth overall at the championship event.
Oregon State, hitting all but two routines, claimed the session one team victories on vault and beam. In addition to team victories, Madi Dagen was tied for first on the beam following the first session.
The Beavers, who were the top seed in the session, chose to begin the meet on bars. Kaitlyn Yanish led the Beavers with a score of 9.750, while M. Dagen added a 9.725 for the second-best Oregon State score. With a team score of 48.075 in the opening rotation, the Beavers trailed in the early going to Washington (49.00), Arizona State (48.600), and Stanford (48.200).
Oregon State headed to the balance beam looking to move up. Kristina Peterson led off the rotation with a 9.700. Each of the Beavers' following gymnasts improved upon her score. Jenna Domingo added a 9.850 with M. Dagen closing with a 9.900 to tie for first overall in the afternoon session.
At the halfway point, the Beavers closed the gap with a 49.100 on beam for a 97.175 overall score but were still behind Washington (98.075), Stanford (97.550), and Arizona (97.375).
On the floor, Kayla Bird and Peterson tallied 9.900s to lead the Beavers and grab second overall in the first session. Yanish and Niya Mack followed with a 9.825 and 9.800, respectively. Oregon State totaled a 49.200 on the floor for a 146.375 running score. After the third rotation, the Beavers were tied with Stanford in second place, behind Washington (146.925).
Moving on to their final event, the Beavers took the vault. Bird and Peterson led off with two-straight 9.775 scores. Yanish added a 9.850 before Sydney Gonzales, Lacy Dagen, and M. Dagen closed the meet with three-straight 9.875s for OSU.
The Beavers finished strong for the session one win with a 49.250 on vault for a 195.625 overall. Arizona followed in second with a 195.400 with Stanford (195.175) and Washington (194.400) following.
Oregon State will return to action Friday, April 2 at the NCAA Regional Championships at a site to be determined. The regional fields will be announced Monday via NCAA.com.
