PRINEVILLE, Ore. (KTVZ) -- Rimrock Trails Treatment Services is honored to receive $2,000 in grant funds from First Story on behalf of their building partners, Hayden Homes to support their Redmond-based Child and Family Program.

This funding supports the infrastructure needed to provide evidence-based and affordable counseling to the youngest Deschutes County residents and their families.  Assistance will create a designated children’s therapy space and help to purchase supplies and equipment necessary to provide specialized counseling for children.

“We are so very thankful for our valued partners at First Story and Hayden Homes.  These funds will assist us in our effort to provide access to quality and affordable mental health care for our youngest community members and their families.  With their partnership, we will enhance the lives of our Deschutes County residents and the greater community.” – Michelle Duff, Rimrock Trails Community Relations Manager

Due to an urgent need in the community for child and family counseling services, Rimrock Trails hired Licensed Clinical Social Worker Jackie Taylor to offer specialized counseling services focused on children diagnosed with mental health disorders and their families.

The Redmond clinic will continue to provide individual and group counseling services to persons of all ages, and with Taylor’s direction will incorporate a specialized focus on children’s mental health issues including depression, anxiety, trauma, and grief.

At First Story we give to other non-profits because the core of our mission is to change lives and we know we can’t do it alone.  By supporting dozens of incredible organizations across Oregon, Washington, and Idaho we’re doing more than making home ownership dreams come true.  We’re doing our part to ensure that everyone – not just families living in a First Story home – has access to a brighter future.” – Claire Duncan, First Story’s Executive Director

About First Story

First Story’s mission is to promote giving and inspire communities through the creation of homeownership opportunities and financial support.  Our vision is to change lives.

First Story would not be where it is today without the passion and dedication of founder Hayden Watson. Robert and Virginia Watson, founders of Hayden Homes, taught their son the importance of building a successful home building company and about the spirit of generosity. Virginia believed we should live in a world where we give more than we get and that philosophy became the inspiration behind First Story.

In 1998, as a way to honor his father and mother, Hayden started First Story. The non-profit began by giving direct donations to charitable causes in towns and cities across the Pacific Northwest. But, Hayden’s vision was bigger than that, and in 2002 First Story collaborated with Hayden Homes to build the very first grant house.

Today, First Story addresses the affordable housing crisis through an integrated approach that focuses on giving individuals a hand up to homeownership while encouraging inclusivity.  The nonprofit collaborates with builder Hayden Homes to construct homes in their communities which are then sold through First Story's loan program. This unique approach, that avoids segregated housing, provides quality, move-in ready homes to qualified applicants at or below 80% area median income. First Story also gives to other charitable causes throughout the Northwest. For the past 20 years, the nonprofit has been helping make communities stronger by donating over 1.3M to important local organizations dedicated to serving the most vulnerable populations. Nearly 700 charities who are providing shelter, food, emergency relief and services to families in crisis, homeless teens and veterans have received a grant from First Story.
