Last week the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Roseburg donated nearly 37,000 pounds of food to the Food Bank program of the United Community Action Network.
Sarah McGregor of UCAN said the church’s donation included 24 pallets made up of canned goods such as fruit, vegetables, and beans. The food will be distributed to families in need in the network of 16 food pantries across Douglas County. McGregor said the Food Bank also provides to over 30 organizations that work to fight hunger.
McGregor estimated that the food combined with perishable items from the food bank will help to feed 1,050 families for around five days. She said local leaders of the church coordinated the details of the donation.
