HIGH POINT, N.C.-- The High Point University women's soccer season ended in the first round of the NCAA Tournament with a 6-0 loss to #1 seed Virginia. Goalkeeper Morgan Hairston had 10 saves on the day, which is tied for 2nd most in program history in a NCAA tournament game. The Panthers season culminated in Charlottesville, VA, but the three graduating seniors (Juliette Vidal, Chloe Le Franc, and Lauren Mazich) ended their careers as Big South tournament champions and provided the women's soccer program with their first NCAA tournament appearance since 2017. Coach Fontaine adds her first NCAA tournament appearance as a head coach, to go along with the four NCAA tournament appearances she has while an assistant coach for the Panthers.
Brandi Fontaine: Tough result tonight for this group. This Virginia team is probably one of the best teams I have ever faced in my career as an assistant or head coach. Our girls gave it their best tonight and I am so proud of their never say die mentality that they kept all game long. We were able to get almost every single player that was with us on the field tonight. None of our players here tonight had experienced an NCAA tournament. Now that we had a taste of it I have no doubt the girls will come back next season hungry for more. I am thankful to all 3 of our seniors and what they have done for this program. They elevated and changed our program in ways I never knew was possible. For that we are forever grateful. We are truly going to miss them.
