RIVIERA MAYA, Mexico – The Illinois State Redbirds got a game-high 20 points from junior guard Antonio Reeves, as seven different layers scored at least six points for ISU; however, it was not enough as the team fell 82-76 to Saint Louis in each program's first game in Mexico.

Reeves made 5-of-13 shots from the field, 4-of-6 from beyond the arc, and 6-of-7 from the charity stripe. Sy Chatman and Mark Freeman each added 13 points for ISU, while Howard Fleming Jr. and Emon Washington each scored seven, and Josiah Strong and Kendall Lewis each six.

Illinois State will face off against the Buffalo Bulls on Tuesday, November 24, with a 5 p.m. (CT) tip-off.

The Redbirds never led in the first half, as Saint Louis scored the first six points of the game. The first-half Redbird deficit grew to as many as 11 points at 22-11; however, ISU fought back to within one following a pair of Fleming Jr. free throws, and the margin remained at one heading into the locker room at halftime with SLU holding a slim 34-33 lead.

The 'Birds took their first lead of the game early in the second half when Chatman took a Lewis pass and slammed it home, giving Illinois State the 35-34 lead. Trailing by eight with 12:45 to play in the game, Illinois State went on a 12-2 run, capped by a Lewis lay-in, that put the Redbirds ahead by two; however, eight straight points put the Billikens ahead, and the squad never trailed again. ISU used six straight points to tie the score at 60 apiece, before SLU ran off 11 consecutive points. The Redbirds would not give up the fight and cut the gap to six by the final buzzer in the narrow loss.

Fleming Jr. dished out a team-high six assists for the Redbirds, while also grabbing a career-high five steals – one game after setting his career-high with four steals against Bucknell.

The Redbirds made 48.1 percent of their shots in the game, including a stellar 57.1 percent in the second half, while converting on 8-of-21 shots from long range and 16-of-22 from the free throw line. Saint Louis made half of their 54 shots in the contest, while making 8-of-20 from beyond the arc and 20-of-25 from the free throw line.

Saint Louis was led by Gibson Jimerson who scored 19 points, while Jordan Nesbitt scored 14, Terrence Hargrove Jr. 13, and Martin Linssen 10. Yuri Collins dished out a game-high eight assists while also committing eight turnovers and grabbing a team-high three steals.
