MITCHELL, S.D.-- Augustana wrestling participated in the DWU Open in Mitchell, South Dakota, on Saturday, claiming first place in two weight classes. Five Viking wrestlers took home second place in the tournament.
Jack Huffman, competing in the 133-pound weight class, went 4-0 on the day recording a fall in his first match. Huffman defeated his opponents with two major decisions and a 3-1 decision in the final against teammate Brandon Carroll.
Steven Hajas was victorious in the 285-pound weight class. Hajas, ranked No. 4 nationally, defeated five opponents and recorded two falls and two technical falls at the tournament.
Brandon Carroll placed second in the 133-pound weight class, going 3-1 with a bye in the first round. Carroll recorded one fall and won by major decision in the semifinal against No. 2 nationally ranked Garrett Vos of St. Cloud State.
Tyler Wagener competed in the 157-pound bracket and placed second. Wagener recorded two falls on the day.
Miles Fitzgerald placed second in the 165-pound weight class. Fitzgerald went 3-1, recording one fall and one technical fall.
Kolby Kost captured second place in the 184-pound bracket with two falls including one against the No. 8 ranked wrestler in the nation.
Daniel Bishop competed in the 197-pound weight class, going 4-1 with three technical falls and a close 3-1 decision loss to a nationally ranked opponent.
Kage Lenger (unattached) captured third place in the 141-pound bracket, recording two falls and two technical falls to go 4-1 at the tournament.
