Eskom will implement stage-2 load shedding from 11am on Friday, with the utility warning that the severity of the cuts will likely increase over the weekend.
The state-owned electricity monopoly said a unit each at the Lethabo and Majuba power stations had not been returned to service as planned, while a unit at Tutuka tripped.
“Three Kendal units were taken offline and it is anticipated that the fourth and remaining unit will also be shut down,” Eskom said. “The conveyor belts supplying these units are currently not running due to a power fault. No coal is reaching the station at this point.”
As a result of these problems, the company said: “We unfortunately do expect the load shedding stage to escalate into the weekend but this can only be confirmed once we have a better understanding of these problems and when they are likely to be resolved.” — (c) 2021 NewsCentral Media
