Women's Tennis Completes First Day of Cissie Leary Invitational - Drexel Dragons

PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel women's tennis team traveled across University City to compete in the first day of the Cissie Leary Invitational, hosted by Penn. In a hidden dual format, the Dragons played two doubles matches against Delaware and Penn. In singles play, the Dragons faced Cornell in seven matches.
 
The dragons received an excellent showing from Aida Garcia Mendez and Tara Veluvolu in their doubles match. The duo entered the day with a 2-2 record and recorded a win to tie for the team's best record in doubles play. Garcia Mendez and Veluvolu defeated their opponents from Penn, 7-6 (6).
 
In singles play against Cornell, coming off her showing at the Super ITA tournament, Lorie Lemongo picked up a win, 6-2, 6-2. Joining Lemongo was Isabel Cabrerizo. In her match, Cabrerizo dropped the first set, 5-7, but battled back to take the second and third, 6-3, 10-5.
 
The Dragons return to Penn's campus to compete on day two of the three-day invitational on Saturday.
