BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - CSU Bakersfield women's cross country is headed to its first championship meet as members of the Big West Conference. Wildhorse Golf Course is where an individual and team champion will be decided on Friday as UC Davis plays host.
The event opens with an 8k men's race at 9 a.m. followed by the women's 6k scheduled for 10 a.m.
AJ Frausto has paced the Roadrunners each race this season, moving up to second all-time in 6k races at CSUB with her 22:17 finish at the Bronco Invitational. She looks to improve on her time in what could be her final cross country race.
Frausto will be joined by newcomers Ysabel Gamon, Neyda Martinez, and Alicia Muralles – all coming off their first 6k distance race. Director of Cross Country, Marcia Mansur-Wentworth mentioned that Alicia "ran strong in the last meet" and she is "looking for the three to improve and become more confident this week."
Amber Sosa will round out the scoring five for CSUB on Friday with redshirt junior Alyssa Diaz injured. Mansur-Wentworth said, "Alyssa is working with sports medicine to return for the indoor track and field season in January. We will miss her experience and how she always puts her best race up for conference meets."
"I look for AJ to go out with a good race in her final cross country meet," added Mansur-Wentworth, "and for Ysabel, Neyda, Alicia and Amber to gain more experience and build toward the future. It has been a joy to work with these young women this season and encouraged for the future."
