In the third story of our series highlighting local first responders for National First Responders Month, Firefighter Jeffery Cade White shares his experience working for Paris Fire Department.
White has been a driver/engineer for the Paris Fire Department for the last three years; He’s been with the department for almost six years, and a firefighter overall for about 11 years. During that time, he has had to face many obstacles and has had many rewarding experiences as well. His most memorable moment, he said, was the downtown fire on the square a few years back.
“I remember stopping and thinking after everything was over and saying to myself, ‘Wow, I work with the best people in the business,'” he said.

White said he realized his senior year of high school that he wanted to be a firefighter.
“I actually had a summer job with my cousin who is a firefighter in Grand Prairie,” he said. “I thought to myself, ‘Man, that sounds like a great job!’ and I was right.”
The best thing about his career, he said, is helping people and being an unbreakable team. He said he also loves seeing the joy on kids’ faces when they see a firefighter.
“People rely on us, and we rely on each other,” he added.
The hardest part, he said, is being away from his family for 24 hours at a time.
“It’s hard missing family stuff,” he said. “However, that’s part of the job I signed up for.”
