Florida Completes First Day of SEC Match Play - Florida Gators

The Gators fell to South Carolina 1-4 in the opening match and their second round match vs. Alabama was suspended due to darkness.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Florida men's golf team completed the first day of the inaugural SEC Match Play Championship on Sunday, falling 1-4 to South Carolina. 

Tyler Wilkes, making his season debut, earned the lone point for the Gators. Taking his match 4&3 after dropping the first two holes to start the day. 

The Gamecocks secured the next four matches after late comebacks from Rafe Reynolds and Evans Lewis. 

Florida's Fred Biondi almost forced extra holes in his matchup, rallying down by two in the final three holes, but his opponent held on as USC took three matches by one stroke (1 up). 

The Gators began its second round match against Alabama, but the round was left unfinished due to darkness. Alabama and Florida will resume tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. ET.
