Not-so-happy-homecoming.
On Saturday afternoon the Alma College football team got whooped in its annual homecoming contest, falling to visiting Olivet College 33-10 in both teams’ MIAA opener.
The Scots were completely dominated in the contest as the Comets outgained the hosts 448-110 and had a 23-9 advantage in first downs. Moreover, Olivet went 10-for-15 in third-down conversions while the Scots went 2-for-11.
Alma College had 50 yards passing and 60 rushing while Olivet had 190 passing and 258 rushing.
The Comets (4-0, 1-0 MIAA) opened the scoring in the first when Cortaveon Barnett rushed in from 55-yards out to make it 7-0.
Alma College (4-1, 0-1) got a 34-yard field goal from Joshua Hernandez to make it 7-3, that would be as close as it got as Olivet scored the next 19 points to seal the deal.
Nathan Goralski added in a 4-yard TD pass from Trent Devereaux for Alma’s final tally in the fourth quarter.
Devereaux completed 8-of-21 passes for 50 yards while Keegan Benkhardt had 38-yards rushing on 11 carries.
Ormsby completed 14-of-24 passes for Olivet and was intercepted four times.
The Scots return to action at Kalamazoo College on Saturday at 1 p.m.
