After staying close with the pack through the first 400 meters of the race, Giesing put on the gas for the final leg. The middle-distance runner cruised across the finish line in a personal-best 2:04.85 to win the event by nearly two seconds. With her time, Giesing also set a new school record in the event, smashing the previously set time by over three seconds.
"Izzy has had an incredible season. In fact, she's won every race she's ran this spring," said Head Coach Gary Gardner. "Tonight, she sat behind the West Point runner until the final 250 meters then pulled away from there. There is definitely more in the tank, and we're looking forward to what she can accomplish at the NCAA regional meet."
In the 1,500-meter, Sessa kept the pressure on from the start, gaining a 10-second lead to win the event in 4:24.31 for yet another career best in the event.
"Emily won her race by 10 seconds and closed in 66 seconds for the final 400 meters. She started to settle in a bit in the middle two laps. If we clean that up for next week, she should be able to get her NCAA qualifier as well," said Gardner.
The River Hawks close out the weekend tomorrow afternoon, traveling to Hanover, N.H. to take on the Dartmouth Outdoor Invitational.
