Saints Row: The Third Remastered has been given the next-gen re-release treatment with a few enhancements over the original PS4 release. We’ve had a look and while it’s not the most impressive next-gen port you’ll see, it’s still a good effort and a nice free upgrade, even if the dumb delivery let it down.
Saints Row: The Third Remastered is a fantastic game by any measure – it’s ridiculous, funny, and fun to play with its big city full of wacky missions, psychotic side-tasks, and a colourful cast of criminals. But is it really one that needed to be re-released on a third platform? Saints Row: The Third Remastered will actually be tied with GTA V when Rockstar releases the PS5/Xbox Series X|S versions later this year, and maybe with some extra story content, too. Though to be fair, Deep Silver’s re-release is a free upgrade for current owners and the publisher isn’t having the gall to charge full price anyway.
As far as free upgrades go, Saints Row The Third: Remastered is fairly straightforward, even by the publisher’s admission. You get the game running at the equivalent of PC’s high settings, along with dynamic 4K resolution on PS5 and Xbox Series X, which looks decent enough in play and it’s a clear improvement over the original PS4 release, and even more so over the original-original release back on PS3 and Xbox 360!
Enough of my waffle, though – you can check out a few minutes of the game running on PS5 compared to running on PS4, along with a loading comparison between the two during the opening mission. It’s a massive improvement on PS5 as the SSD puts in the word to load up in just over six seconds, compared to the PS4’s 17 seconds.
