10/18/2020 6:30:00 PM

PITTSBURGH – The Pitt women's basketball team held their first official team practice of the 2020-21 campaign on Sunday afternoon inside the Petersen Events Center.

The Panthers are returning all five starters from last season's squad that collected just the second ACC Tournament victory in program history. In all, Pitt will be returning 91.8% of their rebounding and 83.2% of their scoring from a season ago.

Four of the five returning starters for the Panthers from a season ago were part of the highest scoring freshman class in program history. The impressive quartet of Dayshanette Harris, Amber Brown, Rita Igbokwe and Emy Hayford combined to score 948 points for Pitt during their first collegiate seasons.

Harris impressed the most during her first season as a Panther as she earned ACC All-Freshman Team honors after averaging a team-high 12.7 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.8 steals across 27.6 minutes/game. Harris was the only freshman in a power five conference to lead her team in scoring, assists and steals while becoming just the third Panther in program history to lead the team in those three categories, joining Brianna Kiesel (three times) and Laine Selwyn (two times).

Pitt will also be looking for continued production from the other sophomores as Brown, Igbokwe and Hayford will look to build on strong starts to their careers. Brown closed out her first season in Pittsburgh averaging a team-high 31.9 minutes, 9.1 points and a team-high 7.7 rebounds while earning ACC Freshman of the Week honors twice. Hayford started 11 games for the Panthers and averaged 21.9 minutes, 4.7 points and 3.2 rebounds while connecting on 17 triples while Igbokwe started the final seven games of the season and posted a team-high 46.2% field goal percentage, 4.5 points and 6.8 rebounds. The athletic center also set a freshman program record with 60 blocks, third most in the ACC.

Gabbie Green and Cara Judkins will be relied upon heavily for their strong leadership on and off the court while also providing the Panthers with shooting from the outside and battling down low inside the paint. Ismini Prapa will look to build off of her strong close to the season that saw her net a career-high 12 points in the ACC Tournament win over Notre Dame while Cynthia Ezeja will add some depth up front after sitting out her freshman campaign while training with the squad.

The Panthers will be welcoming six newcomers for the 2020-21 season as Jayla Everett and Destiny Strother transferred in while Sandrine Clesca, Tracey Hueston, Taisha Exanor and Liatu King are a part of the highly-touted freshman class for Pitt. Everett gained immediate eligibility and will provide Pitt with some confidence and scoring ability while the four freshman will be relied on for some depth.
