The University of North Dakota took over the top position, garnering 28 first-place votes and 780 points. The Fighting Hawks were followed by Boston College (four first-place votes and 710 points), UMD (three first-place votes and 638 pts.), Minnesota State University (one first-place vote and 635 pts.), the University of Denver (620 pts.), Cornell University (the remaining four first place votes and 602 pts.), the University of Massachusetts (467 pts.), Clarkson University (421 pts.), Penn. State University (400 pts.) and the Ohio State University (363 pts.)
The Bulldogs, who will open their 77th season of intercollegiate hockey riding a a five-game winning streak (dating back to the finish of last season) and having won nine of their final 10 assignments, joined North Dakota (No. 1), Denver (No. 5) and Western Michigan University (No. 18) as the four National Collegiate Hockey Conference clubs to make the USCHO.com Poll. St. Cloud State University & the University of Omaha, meanwhile, received votes.
UMD has cracked every USCHO.com Top 20 Poll since March 7, 2016.
