It was a Tuesday matinee horror flick at Coors Field. Let’s call it, “A Nightmare on Blake Street.”

In the first inning, the San Francisco Giants sent 13 hitters to the plate, banged out eights, including a grand slam by Brandon Belt, followed by a solo blast by Buster Posey.

The score after one inning: San Francisco Giants 10, the Rockies zilch.

The final score of the first game of Tuesday’s doubleheader: Giants 12, Rockies 4.

The Rockies’ highlight was a fourth-inning grand slam by the sizzling Ramiel Tapia. It was the third slam of Tapia’s career. Tapia, who’s hit four homers this season, went 1-fox-4 and is batting .317.

Rockies right-hander German Marquez, their No. 1 starter, gave up eight runs on six hits and saw his ERA soar from 4.13 to 6.21. Jhoulys Chacin came in and served up the two home runs to the first two batters he faced.

The Giants raised their team batting average by six points in the first inning.

Now for some history:

For the Rockies:* Seventh time in franchise history they allowed 10 or more runs in one inning. (Last, June 21, 2017 vs. Arizona, 10 runs in top of 4th inning).

* Second time they allowed 10 or more runs in the first inning, the first time doing so in the top of the first. (They allowed 10 runs in the bottom of the first inning at Dodger Stadium on April 26, 2008).

* The last time Marquez started the first game of a doubleheader against the Giants, he pitched just 2 2/3 innings and gave up 11 runs on 11 hits, including two home runs. That was on July 15, 2019.

For the Giants:

* The first time scoring at least 10 runs in one inning since scoring 10 in the bottom of the fourth inning Sept. 7, 2008, vs. Pittsburgh.

* The fifth time in the Giants’ long history that they scored 10-plus runs in the first inning. They hadn’t done it since June 29, 1967, at St. Louis. And they did most their against Hall of Famer Bob Gibson. The Giants scored 11 in that game, nine of them coming off Gibson in two-thirds of an inning. Gibson gave up seven runs and walked two.

On DeckGiants RHP Logan Webb (1-2, 4.13 ERA) at Rockies RHP Jon Gray (3-2, 3.15)1:10 p.m. Wednesday, Coors FieldTV: AT&T SportsNetRadio: KOA 850 AM/94.1 FM

Gray is coming off a so-so start against Arizona when he gave up five runs (four earned) on nine hits over six innings. Gray has been excellent at Coors Field, going 3-0 with a 1.85 ERA, 24 strikeouts and 11 walks in four starts. However, in 12 career starts against the Giants, he’s 1-6 with a 6.16 ERA, and in five career starts against them at Coors, Gray is 0-3 with a 10.13 ERA. Webb (1-2) tossed six innings against San Diego on Friday, allowing three runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out four. He was tagged with the loss. After a rough start to the season, Webb has yielded only three earned runs over his past 13 innings. He got a no-decision vs. the Rockies on April 10 at San Francisco, allowing three runs on eight hits, with six strikeouts and two walks over five innings in the Giants’ 4-3 win.

Trending: After hitting a fourth-inning grand slam in Game 1 of Tuesday’s doubleheader, left fielder Raimel Tapia was batting .357 (14-38) with nine runs scored and 11 RBIs in his last 12 games since April 20.

At issue: Rockies right-hander German Marquez, who gave up eight runs in just two-thirds of an inning in the first game of Tuesday’s doubleheader vs. the Giants, has given up 21 walks in 33 1/3 innings this season. His fastball command continues to be hit and miss.
