The Pittsburgh Steelers have clinched the AFC North title with their win over the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, while the Kansas City Chiefs have earned the No. 1 seed and the AFC’s only bye.
That means that the Steelers will play a home game at Heinz Field during the opening week of the 2020 NFL Playoffs, and all that is left to be determined is whether they will be the second or third seed in the conference and who their first-round opponent will be.
The Steelers (12-3) are currently the second seed, a half-game ahead of 11-3 Buffalo for that spot, which would guarantee a second home date in the Divisional Playoff. The Bills will visit New England on Monday night before hosting Miami in Week 17.
Buffalo holds a head-to-head tiebreaker over Pittsburgh by virtue of the Bills’ Week 14 win at Bills Stadium, so the Steelers will need to finish ahead of Buffalo in order to earn the second seed.
The Steelers are a game and a half ahead of the Tennessee Titans (10-4), with the Titans visiting Green Bay on Sunday night and then finishing their season at Houston in Week 17.
The Steelers hold the head-to-head tiebreaker over Tennessee and fellow potential No. 4 Indianapolis, meaning they cannot fall below the No. 3 seed.
The way the three Wild Card opponents line up, 10-5 Miami would visit Tennessee, 10-5 Baltimore would head to Buffalo and 10-5 Cleveland would return to Pittsburgh for a Week 17 rematch. The Ravens will wrap with Cincinnati.
Indianapolis (10-5) is the only team on the outside of the AFC playoff picture that currently has a chance to make the postseason.
