Quarterback Kamren Ivory and receiver Jaylin Peterson are not just some Johnny-come-lately scoring tandem for the Ramsay football team. The seniors are about as grizzled a pair of veterans as you can get in high school football.

And they are producing like the veterans they are.

Ivory completed 11-of-13 passes for 196 yards and four touchdowns, three of those scoring passes to Peterson, as Class 5A, third-ranked Ramsay defeated Fairfield 34-12.

“Me and Jaylin have been playing since middle school so the chemistry is there with us,” said Ivory, who completed all nine of his first-half passes, which included the four scores.

The final scoring connection between the two, a 15-yarder with 3:34 left in the first half came on a fourth-down conversion that put the Rams up for good at 20-6.

“Me and Camren have been putting in work all season and the offseason,” said Peterson, who finished with 60 yards on four catches. “On the last touchdown catch it was a corner route. He just put it right over my head and I went up and got it.”

Added Ivory, “On the corner route touchdown, I just liked my guy over their guy.”

Ivory and Peterson also connected for a 28-yard touchdown in the first quarter and a 14-yarder in the second.

“Jaylin and Cam have been throwing and playing with each other for a while so when it comes down to plays being made we expect both of them to step up,” said Ramsay coach Rueben Nelson.

The win sets up a winner-take-all game for the Region 5 title with top-ranked Pleasant Grove next week.

Ramsay (8-0, 6-0) outgained Fairfield (3-5, 2-4) 336-168 in total yards and posted three interceptions. The Rams also held Fairfield to -2 yards rushing for the game.

Alonzo Johnson had three receptions for 95 yards and a touchdown, a 25-yarder in the second quarter.

Jeffrey Rowser added a 5-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter and finished with 75 yards on 13 carries.

Fairfield backup quarterback Eric Handley completed 14 of 34 passes for 120 yards. He replaced starter Quintin House, who left the game with a shoulder injury in the first quarter.

Handley had two touchdown passes, both to Malachi Holt Bennet, a 14-yarder in the second quarter and a 26-yarder in the fourth. Holt Bennet finished with three catches for 56 yards.
