PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel men's soccer team (1-3) notched its first victory on Tuesday night by defeating Saint Peter's (1-3), 5-1 at Vidas Field. Patrick Murphy, Chris Donovan, Adrian Edo Martin, Yassine Elkahloun and Harrison Coron scored to earn the Dragons their first win of the young season. It was the first time that five different players scored for the Dragons since 2010 when the team beat Canisius, 5-0.

Drexel outshot the Peacocks 18-8 through 90 minutes of play. The Dragons were able to put nine of those shots on target. Cameron Sanders earned the start for the Dragons and played all 90 minutes and recorded two saves.

The game was at a standstill until Drexel scored in the 29th minute. Kyle Tucker played a ball from midfield to Donovan who was on top of the penalty box. The Paoli native took a light touch and passed it to McCarthy, who scored his first goal of the season.

Saint Peter's answered quickly to tie the game at one, but that didn't stay for long as the Dragons tacked on two quick goals four minutes later. The first goal came in the 35th minute by Edo Martin. The graduate student received a pass from Andrew Lizyness and sent the ball into the back of the net from 20 yards out. Less than a minute later, Edo Martin took a corner kick and played the ball to Valtteri Hiilloskorpi. The junior then crossed the ball into the box, where Donovan scored with a header to give the Dragons a 3-1 lead.

On the other side of the half, with 15 minutes remaining, Drexel scored once more. Cesar Banacloy crossed a ball from the left side of the field. Elkahloun made a great play on the ball by diving and heading it into net.

The Dragons then capped off their scoring barrage just as the 86th minute was coming to an end. Joey Martini's shot ricocheted off the crossbar. Coron then found a way to get to the ball and place it to the left of the goal to beat the diving Saint Peter's keeper.

Drexel will return to Vidas Field to open its conference schedule against the 2021 spring season CAA runner-up, UNCW, on Saturday, September 11. The match against the Seahawks will kick off at 6 p.m. on FloFC.
