The High Point University women's soccer team (0-3-1) travels to Knoxville, Tennessee to face the University of Tennessee (5-0) for its third road match of the year on Sunday night (Sep. 5th). The Panthers face their second power-5 opponent of the regular season with the Sunday night clash with the Lady Vols.
Matchup History with SEC
This is HPU's first time challenging Tennessee but it marks the ninth time The Panthers have played an SEC school. This will be HPU's 42nd match against a power five school in Division I school history. The Lady Volunteers enter the game ranked #22 in the United Soccer Coaches Poll.
A Look at Tennessee
The Lady Vols are 5-0 this season with wins over Florida Gulf Coast, Miami (OH), Tennessee Tech, Louisiana, and USF. The freshman from Mansfield, Ohio Taylor Huff leads Tennessee in scoring so far this season with five goals. She has scored scoring in three out of the first five games.
Last Time Out
HPU dropped a close one to ECU 2-1 on a hot Sunday afternoon (Aug. 29). The Panthers' one goal of the day came off of ECU's own goal. HPU heads to Tennessee after experiencing a full seven-day break between games, the longest gap between games for the Panthers this season. It was a close game that saw the Pirates take the lead late to win after being tied at the half.
