The High Point University men's soccer (2-3) makes its first-ever trip to College Park, Maryland to face the Terrapins for the first time in program history. It marks the second Power-5 matchup for HPU in 2021 in the regular season. The trip to Maryland creates a homecoming for four players on HPU's roster in Alex Abril, Aidan Abril, Jackson Ruckman, and Seth Depriest-Kessler.
Matchup History vs Maryland
HPU has never faced the Terps, Monday night marks the first meeting. This is HPU's 6th top 10 opponent since 2018 & 7th since 2017.
Matchup History with Big 10
Monday night is also the first time HPU has faced a Big Ten team. In 2018, the Panthers were slated to play their first Big Ten game against Penn State but the game was canceled due to weather.
A look at #8 Maryland
The Terps' wins have come against #18 Charlotte, UMBC, George Mason, Virginia, and Michigan. UMD's lone loss this season came against HPU's opponent in the 2020-21 NCAA Tournament #1 Georgetown. The Terps have burst into the top 25 after starting the season outside of the poll after a hot start to their season. UMD hosts HPU after defeating Michigan in its last time out.
Last time out against Elon
HPU was victorious in overtime 3-2 over Elon as Alex Abril scored the game-winner in the 97th minute on Wednesday night (Sep. 15) inside Vert Stadium. Sebastian Chalbaud, Caco Fernandez, and Abril Wednesday night marked the 55th meeting between HPU and Elon, the Panthers lead the series 29-13-12. Since becoming DI in 1999 HPU has faced Elon 21 times.
Seba Executes
The first goal of the game came with 15 minutes remaining in the first half off of a Chalbaud PK. The PK came from a Phoenix handball in the box, as the ref awarded Jake Kelly of Elon a red card bringing the Phoenix down to 10 men.

The Panthers doubled their lead in the 65th minute of play off of an unassisted Fernandez finish. Fernandez beat the keeper with a near-post bent ball finish.

Abril Calls Game
Abril's overtime goal in the 97th minute led the Panthers to a 3-2 victory over Elon on Wednesday night at Vert Stadium. David Greene assisted Abril's goal.
