2021 GMC Sierra Denali with green hills

Fresh from a redesign, the GMC Sierra 1500 Crew Cab gives no indications of slowing down. With seating for six, it offers space, performance, capability, and more in a full-size light-duty pickup truck. Power is supplied via a buyer’s choice of engines ranging from a 2.7-liter turbocharged inline-4-cylinder engine up to a 6.2-liter V8 whose cousin is found in the new C8 Corvette Stingray. These engines drive either the rear- or 4-wheel drive systems with towing capabilities ranging from 7,900 to 11,800 pounds.

The base GMC Sierra 1500 Crew Cab with short box starts at $37,940. It includes seating for six, a 2.7-liter turbo inline-4-cylinder engine, 8-speed automatic transmission, 12-volt front and rear auxiliary power outlets, Bluetooth, 6-speaker audio, and 4G LTE Wi-Fi hot-spot (via subscription). It’s well-equipped, but the GMC Sierra 1500 Crew Cab is not posh. If that’s what you’re seeking, read on.

Fully Loaded

The top-of-the-line GMC Sierra 1500 Denali 4WD Crew Cab is for the person who will be at the job site in the morning and potentially the opera in the evening. It starts at $63,885 (plus destination charge) and includes a 6.2-liter EcoTec3 V8 engine with Dynamic Fuel Management technology, 4-wheel drive, an electronically controlled 10-speed automatic transmission, Tow/Haul mode to reduce shifting for better control and cooling, and automatic engine braking to maintain desired speed when driving downhill and to reduce brake wear. More options are listed below that will drive the price from the base $63,885 to just under $79,600, including the $1,695 destination fee.

Here’s a look at some of that extra content:

6.2-Liter EcoTec3 V8 Engine

Not many other vehicles can say they share the same basic engine with the new Corvette Stingray C8. But the GMC Sierra Denali Crew Cab can. Unlike the Corvette with Active Fuel Management which shuts down specific cylinders, the Sierra uses Dynamic Fuel Management to shut down any cylinder when it is not needed. When properly equipped with the 6.2-liter V8, the Sierra Denali can tow up to 9,200 pounds.

Denali Ultimate Package

This kit includes power side steps, rear camera mirror, power sunroof, adaptive cruise control, Driver Alert Package II, and the Sierra Technology Package with HD Surround Vision complete with two trailer-view camera provisions, bed-view camera, 15-inch head-up display, and 8-inch driver information center.

Technology and Driver Alert II packages

The Technology Package includes a load of electronics designed to make an owner’s life easier. They include the HD Surround Vision system with two Trailer View Camera Provisions and Rearview Camera Mirror. A multi-color 15-inch head-up display keeps the driver’s attention forward, while a bed-view camera keeps an eye on the box. The Driver Alert II package brings lane-keep assist with lane-departure warning, automatic emergency braking, front pedestrian braking, forward-collision alert, following-distance indicator, adaptive cruise control, safety seat, and Intellibeam automatic headlights.

GMC Sierra 1500 Denali Tow and Cargo Capability

Taking advantage of Denali’s towing capabilities will require the available GMC ProGrade Trailering System. It offers up to 15 camera views, including one that lets you virtually view through your trailer to see what’s behind it. Power trailering mirrors and available in-vehicle trailering apps round out the offerings and can help this top-end Denali tow up to 9,200 pounds.

MultiPro Tailgate

The MultiPro Tailgate is a GM innovation offering six-way versatility with steps, bed extensions, cargo stops, and more. The primary tailgate gently lowers by pressing a button in the cab or on the key fob. This primary tailgate includes a load stop to prevent loads from sliding out. The easy access function allows you to get closer to reach further in the bed. A full-width step can be opened, as can an inner gate load stop. Finally, an inner gate with a work surface.

It also features a MultiPro Audio System by Kicker. This optional 100-watt exterior Bluetooth streaming speaker system with available lighting brings your music wherever you are.
