Kansas State’s Jordan Wicks and Texas’ Ty Madden were taken in the opening round of the 2021 MLB Draft.
Wicks, a left-handed pitcher, was the Conference’s first selection at No. 21 by the Chicago Cubs. He is the highest draft pick in K-State program history and the first Wildcat picked in the opening round.
Madden, a right-handed pitcher, was selected 32nd overall by the Detroit Tigers in the Competitive Balance A round. The redshirt sophomore is the highest-drafted Longhorn since Taylor Jungmann was selected 12th overall in 2011.
This is the fourth consecutive season the Big 12 had at least one player selected in the first round and the 19th time since 1998. Overall, there have been 47 Big 12 standouts selected in the opening round of the MLB Draft.
Day two opens at Noon CT on Monday with the start of the second round and will continue through the completion of Round 10. The Draft concludes with rounds 11-20 on Tuesday, starting at 11 a.m. CT. Monday and Tuesday’s coverage will be available at MLB.com.
