The Daviess County High School softball team is headed to it's first-ever state championship game, after beating after beating Lewis County 6-2 at John Cropp Stadium in Lexington, Saturday morning.
The Panthers got the jump on the Lady Lions in the first inning, as Jessie Daniels began a big day at the plate with an run-scoring line drive off the glove of the Lewis County first baseman, bringing in the opening run of the game.
Daviess County would erupt for five runs in the third inning, highlighted by Daniels' 3-run home run that bounced off the scoreboard in left-center. And after three innings, the Panthers were out in front, 6-0.
That was more than enough for Daviess County starting pitcher Raylee Roby, who tossed five shutout frames before Lewis County snuck two across in the sixth inning. However, she would rebound to toss a complete game.
The Panthers now advance to the state championship game in the program's history. They'll face Butler, a 10-2 winner over Green County in Saturday's other semifinal, in tomorrow's state title match-up tomorrow in Lexington. First pittch from John Cropp Stadium on the campus of the University of Kentucky is at 1 pm central time.
