(May 20, 2021) The softball team won its first game of the season 16-2 against Martha’s Vineyard Saturday. It was a strong bounce-back effort after losing to Nauset 29-16 last Wednesday.
“What we want to see is improvement each time we take the field,” head coach Chris Maury said. “The way we practice is going to dictate the way we play. I told them our practices are going to be 10 times harder than any game. We are doing everything we can to stay ready. We need to be able to hit the ball, we need to run the bases correctly.”
The Whalers (1-2) had given up 48 runs and were struggling to string together error-free innings through the first two games of the season, but their defense and pitching was sharp from the first pitch of the Vineyard game.
