Damage to property: I-271

A Mayfield Heights woman reported that the windshield of her 2019 GMC Terrain was chipped as she was driving behind a landscaping truck and attached trailer in the northbound local lanes of the highway around 4:15 p.m. on May 1.

She said a load of loose branches and debris were blowing around and falling out of the trailer, leading to the damage and when she pulled up alongside to flag the truck down, the driver rolled up his window and kept driving.

She got the name and the phone number for the company, as well as photos of the trailer and the damage to her car, and was told by a representative to obtain a police report, which she did.

Speeding, driving under suspension, carrying a concealed weapon (misdemeanor), marijuana possession, auto towed: I-271

After stopping a 2010 Nissan Altima going 83 mph in the express lanes on the afternoon of April 30, the driver, a Cleveland man, 25, told police that he was working on getting a valid license. Police found that it was still forfeited by the state and the man had a warrant from Bratenahl that police there declined to pursue at that time.

The man did have a valid concealed carry permit, and police confiscated a loaded Ruger .380 LCP handgun from his hoodie pocket, as well as a little over 3/4 of an ounce of suspected marijuana in a concealed driver’s seat pocket.

Theft: Orange Place

Police were called to Wasabi Steak House after receiving a call from the restaurant at 8:20 p.m. on April 28, where they could hear the manager and a diner yelling at each other, after she said the Houston man, 42, accompanied by a Cleveland woman, 37, hadn’t paid for their food and were causing a disturbance.

The unwanted guest complaint turned into a theft report, with no further details immediately available.

A resident reported May 1 that she had received a statement the day before from Associated Bank, based in Green Bay, Wisc., for a new checking account which she had not opened, although whoever did had her Social Security number in order to do so.

The bank closed the account and officials there planned to investigate on their end, with the victim contacting major credit bureaus, the Federal Trade Commission and the Internal Revenue Service to have activity frozen.
