Pitt forward Amanda West was named to the All-Atlantic Region first team by the United Soccer Coaches organization last week, becoming the first player in program history to earn first-team all-region honors.
The honor follows a campaign in which West set a Pitt record for goals in a single season, scoring 13 times in 16 games. That ranked fifth in the nation and second among major-conference players. The only major-conference player with more goals was North Carolina's Brianna Pinto, who had 14 in 20 games.
West also tallied seven assists, leading the team in the category for the second straight season and bringing her point total to a program-record 33 for the season. Her 33 points ranked third in the nation and tied for tops among major-conference players.
Postseason honors in the Atlantic Region were dominated by the ACC. The first team of the all-region squad consisted exclusively of ACC players, with West claiming one of the 15 spots. And even the second team saw seven of its 15 spots filled by ACC players.
West won third-team all-region honors as a freshman last season, after scoring 10 goals and coming up with nine assists. At the time, her 10 goals and nine assists tied single-season program records, and her 29 points topped a program record of 26 that was set by Cande Ruiz in 1998. However, West bested her 2019 goal and point totals this season, taking sole possession of the single-season goal record and improving on the points mark.
As a result, West is now the leader in career points at Pitt, with 59, and she is tied with Ashley Cuba for the lead in career goals at Pitt, with 23. And now with all-region honors under her belt and a more formidable team forming around her, West will look to improve and push the team forward once more in the fall.
