Gallatin City Councilmembers recently adopted a proclamation honoring the first responders and healthcare workers on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Officials have declared the week of May 11-15 First Responder-Medical Professionals Appreciation Week.
“I would say a huge thank you to our first responders and medical professionals,” Mayor Paige Brown said. “No time like now has shown us their importance in our community, and I think this entire community — and certainly communities across the country — realize the value (of) these individuals and appreciate what they do on a daily basis, and especially what they do in a time like the crisis we’re experiencing currently.”
Sumner County has tallied 623 confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus as of April 30, the latest data from the Tennessee Department of Health show. Statewide, there have been 10,735 cases. In total, 177,626 have been tested in Tennessee.
Of the 623 cases in Sumner County, there have been 37 deaths, 325 recoveries and 3,312 negative labs, according to the Department of Health.
The first responders and medical staff are “brave, courageous and dedicated individuals who are extensively trained and highly specialized within their skill sets to assist the community and provide aid during emergencies and any time of need,” Brown read from the proclamation during a virtual council meeting last month.
The proclamation also notes that first responders and medical workers routinely “put themselves in harm’s way,” and “make incredible, selfless sacrifices,” to protect others and keep Sumner County safe 24/7.

“In addition to instilling safety and maintaining order, many first responders and medical personnel also take the time to give back and volunteer at churches, schools and through service organizations in order to enhance the community,” the proclamation continues. “The City of Gallatin recognizes the value of these important professionals and thanks all first responders and medical personnel for their incredible and selfless contributions to communities across Sumner County.”
Brown said “we’re grateful” for the work that first responders and medical professionals do, and encouraged citizens to continue to show their appreciation.
