If the Yankees’ 2021 draft class challenges anyone for a game of hoops, they should good on the boards.
On the third and final day of this year’s draft, seven of the Yankees’ 10 picks in rounds 11-20 on Tuesday were pitchers, and four were right-handers who are 6-foot-5 or taller, including 6-5 New Jersey prep star Sean Hard in the 20th round.

The Yankees started the day by selecting 6-foot-8 Ohio State product Jack Neely in the 11th round, then added 6-foot-5 Zach Messenger out of Virginia Commonwealth in round 13 and 6-foot-8 Bailey Dees of Penn State in the 18th round.
Overall, 13 of the Yankees’ 20 selections were pitchers, 11 righties and two lefties. The Yankees picked Stanford righty Brendan Beck in the second round and Arizona prep lefty Brock Selvidge in round three.
The Yankees’ four infield selections were highlighted by first-round pick Trey Sweeney, a shortstop out of Eastern Illinois who wants to be the next Derek Jeter. They also picked two catchers and one outfielder.

8th round (243rd overall): Will Warren, RHP, Southern Louisiana; 6-2, 175.
9th round (273rd overall): Chandler Champlain, RHP, Southern Cal; 6-5, 220.
10th round (303rd overall): Benjamin Cowles, SS, Maryland; 6-1, 180.
11th round (333rd overall): Jack Neely, RHP, Ohio State; 6-8, 225.
12th round (363rd overall): Ben Rice, C, Dartmouth; 6-2, 205.
13th round (393rd overall): Zach Messinger, RHP, Virginia; 6-6, 225.
