PENS EXTEND WIN STREAK TO SIX, NOTCH THREE-WAY TIE FOR FIRST

After two days off, the Penguins continued to stay hot by beating the Boston Bruins, 4-1, on Thursday. The win not only extends the Pens’ winning streak to six games, but it also snaps their winless streak at Boston – dating back to Nov. 24, 2014 – and it creates a three-way tie for first place in the eastern division.

Zach Aston-Reese kicked off the Penguins’ scoring effort within the first two minutes of the game, and defenseman Mike Matheson netted an insurance goal towards the end of the first. Boston’s only goal came in the third period as Brad Marchand brought the Bruins within one, however, Jason Zucker and Jake Guentzel would net two insurance goals within the final seven minutes to ice the game.

Aston-Reese, who was in attendance the last time the Pens won in Boston, said that the win was relieving to not only him, but to his teammates as well. He said that they did anything they could to snap the losing streak, even if it meant changing things off the ice.

Head Coach Mike Sullivan said that Boston presented a tough competition, but his team played hard to come out with the win.

He highlighted that the Penguins had a hot start heading into the opening face-off.

Both teams round out the series on Saturday with puck drop slated for 1 p.m. Coverage on U92.5 FM and the U92 Sports Channel begins with the pregame show at noon.
