Joe Biden's first 100 days in office: 15 key dates that could define his legacy - USA TODAY

WASHINGTON — One hundred days ago, President Joe Biden entered the White House declaring "democracy has prevailed" after a violent attack on the U.S. Capitol two weeks earlier and calling for "unity" to meet a convergence of crises.

A raging pandemic, an economic downturn and racial unrest greeted the 46th president.

In a push to restore normalcy amid the turmoil, Biden brought rigid scheduling and routine back to the White House after four years of unpredictability under former President Donald Trump.

His administration made fighting the COVID-19 virus its top priority publicly, embarking on a massive nationwide effort to deploy COVID-19 vaccine. By achieving attainable benchmarks on gettings shots in arms, he enjoyed strong reviews for his handling of the pandemic.

But new challenges have complicated Biden's presidency: a series of mass shootings renewing calls for meaningful action on gun control, continued killings of Black people by police, an increase in migrants at the U.S. southern border and blowback politically after Biden momentarily indicated he would keep a Trump-era cap on refugees.

Meanwhile, Biden has proven unable to find Republican partners for his signature proposals: a $1.9 trillion COVID-19 rescue plan, passed in March, and a $2.3 trillion jobs and infrastructure plan unveiled his month. It's forced the White House to argue "bipartisanship" isn't defined by politics in Washington, but whether their agenda is supported across the nation.

Here is a look at the days that have thus far defined the Biden presidency:

January and February

Much of President Joe Biden's first weeks in office was spent dismantling policies put in place by his predecessor, getting members of his Cabinet nominated and confirmed by the Senate, and working to gather support for his trillion-dollar COVID-19 stimulus legislation.

March

March brought Biden's first legislative victory with the passage of his $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan. But it also marked a grim milestone, with one year gone since the pandemic blanketed the U.S.

April

Both foreign relations and domestic policy have dominated the month of April. Biden is now looking to pass a major piece of infrastructure legislation and will give his first address to a joint-session of Congress before he hits his 100th day in office.
