One of the most difficult nursing tasks is transfer between beds and wheelchairs. Previous inventions mimicked the human work of lifting, but presented three issues: the risk of dropping, a need for wide spaces, and a lack of maneuverability.
This new approach merges the nursing bed and wheelchair. It has removed the heavy load for caregivers and give patients a sense of security, so it's a solution that is better for everyone.
The development team worked the night shift at Panasonic group aged care facilities. This proximity enabled onsite testing revealing the concept's merits and areas requiring work. Users were impressed that the job of two to three nurses could now be done by one and reported patients feeling far more comfortable about being moved.
Panasonic relied on strong communication with the people engaged in the work every day to develop Resyone. The results show this collaborative method is indispensable in the development of truly innovative, highly useful products.
