Austin – The Texas Men's Tennis Team posted a strong first day at the Big 6 Fall Invitational at the Richland Tennis Center in North Richland Hills, Texas, on Friday. The Longhorns collected seven singles victories, including in four out of five matches in the first singles flight, and also swept their four matches in the top two doubles flights.
The day opened with two tiebreaker wins in the first flight of doubles by the pairs of sophomores Eliot Spizzirri and Siem Woldeab, and sophomore Cleeve Harper and junior Chih Chi Huang by identical 8-7 (5) scores. In the second flight, the duos of freshman Micah Braswell and senior Payton Holden, and sophomores Jacob Bullard and Evin McDonald both earned wins.
In the first flight of singles, Harper, Spizzirri, Braswell and McDonald all secured wins and advanced in the east draw, while in the second flight, Bullard, Holden and sophomore Nevin Arimilli moved on in the that east bracket.
The tournament features Texas, Baylor, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, TCU and Texas Tech in three singles draws, including two compass and one round robin, along with three doubles draws with the same formats.
