BOULDER--Laviska Shenault Jr. led the way for the #NFLBuffs in the opening week of the 2020 season, compiling 42 yards on five touches and scoring his first NFL Touchdown in Jacksonville's 27-20 win over Indianapolis.
Other highlights for Week 1 for the Buffs were David Bakhtiari and the Green Bay offense piling up over 500 yards, Mason Crosby scoring 11 points with two field goals and five PATs for the Packers. Chidobe Awuzie started for the Dallas Cowboys and had his fourth career interception, this one against former No. 1 overall pick Jared Goff. Isaiah Oliver also started for the Atlanta Falcons and had seven tackles, second-most on the team.
A look at all 13 Buffs on their respective team's 53-man rosters:
Chidobe Awuzie (Dallas)-Awuzie started at cornerback in the Cowboys Sunday night game and had an interception against Jared Goff. He was also credited with two tackles and a pass break-up against the Rams. His interception came with the Rams up 20-14 and looking to put the game away. On 3rd-and-7 from the LA 30, Awuzie picked off the pass, and the Cowboys turned it into a field goal to cut the score to 20-17, which wound up being the final score. Awuzie played in 57 of a possible 73 plays on defense. It was his fourth career interception and 33rd career pass break-up.
David Bakhtiari (Green Bay)-Bakhtiari started his 107th career game (out of 107 career games) at left tackle for the Packers, playing all 78 plays on offense in the team's 43-34 win over Minnesota. The Packers racked up over 500 yards of offense as Aaron Rodgers threw for 364 yards and 4 touchdowns and the team ran for 158 yards and another score.
Mason Crosby (Green Bay)-Crosby was perfect in his first game for the Packers, hitting both of his field-goal attempts, from 31- and 43-yards, and all five of his point-after attempts. Additionally, six of his eight kickoffs went for touchbacks. For Crosby, it was his 209th career game and he has now hit on 331-of-408 career field goals and 593-of-605 career PATs for 1,586 career points, passing Al Del Greco for 22nd place on the NFL's all-time scoring chart. He needs 22 more points to enter the top 20.
Arlington Hambright (Chicago)-Hambright was listed as inactive prior to the game in the Bears 27-23 win over Detroit.
Phillip Lindsay (Denver)-Lindsay started and ran the ball seven times for 24 yards and caught one pass for 11 yards in Denver's 16-14 loss to Tennessee on Monday Night Football. He played in 19 first-half snaps and did not return from the locker room in the second half and was ruled out with a foot injury, listed by some as turf toe. 9News' Mike Klis reported Tuesday morning that he will undergo an MRI.
Daniel Munyer (Tennessee)-Munyer played six snaps on special teams for the Titans in their 16-14 win at Denver on Monday Night Football.
Isaiah Oliver (Atlanta)-Oliver started and played all 62 plays on defense for the Falcons. He was credited with seven tackles, the second-most on the team, as the Falcons fell to Seattle, 38-25. He's closing in on 100 career tackles as he now has 92 after week 1.
Laviska Shenault Jr. (Jacksonville)-Shenault had a solid NFL debut, starting and scoring his first NFL touchdown. Shenault finished the game with 3 receptions for 37 yards and a touchdown, and two rushes for five yards. It didn't take Garner Minschew long to find Shenault, as Viska caught his first NFL pass on the Jags seventh play from scrimmage. It was Minschew's second pass attempt of the game and the first completion of the season for the Jaguars. Viska then opened and closed a drive that tied the game at 14-14 late in the first half. Minschew hit Shenault for 18 yards to open the drive and then found him over the middle for a 15-yard score. Shenault also got his first NFL rush on that drive in the wildcat, picking up five yards on 2nd-and-9. Shenault was responsible for 38 of the team's 75 yards on the drive. In all, Viska played in 31 of 50 plays on offense for Jacksonville as they beat Indianapolis 27-20.
Jimmy Smith (Baltimore)-Smith saw the field for 24 plays and had one tackle as the Ravens dismantled the Cleveland Browns, 38-6.
Davion Taylor (Philadelphia)-Taylor saw his first NFL action with 14 plays on special teams for the Eagles, who lost to Washington, 27-17.
Tedric Thompson (Kansas City)-Thompson recorded two tackles in 21 plays for the Chiefs, both within two plays of each other on Houston's two-minute drive near the end of the first half. Kansas City was able to force Houston into a long field goal attempt that missed, and the Chiefs then turned-around and hit a field goal of their own to close out the half in a 34-20 win.
Ahkello Witherspoon (San Francisco)-Witherspoon was credited with one tackle and saw action for four plays on defense and 13 on special teams as the 49ers lost to Arizona, 24-20.
TRANSACTIONS: Kabion Ento (Green Bay) was placed on the reserved/injured list on Sept. 7.
