A flatbed truck hauling pallets and produce containers toppled onto its side, snarling traffic on Highway 154 in the Santa Ynez Valley on Tuesday.
At approximately 9:15 a.m., California Highway Patrol officers and Santa Barbara County firefighters were dispatched to the scene of the two-vehicle collision also involving a disabled vehicle stopped on the road’s shoulder, CHP Officer Keith Rogers said.
For unknown reasons, the truck driver, Amilcar Bonilla Nunez, 30, of Santa Maria, allowed the vehicle to drift and strike the disabled-but-unoccupied Honda Pilot parked on the shoulder of the road, according to the CHP.
The impact caused the flatbed truck to flip onto its side near Zaca Station Road, blocking the eastbound lanes of travel on Highway 154 east of Highway 101.
The truck driver received minor injuries and was taken to local hospital, Rogers said.
Personnel from Caltrans and Smitty’s Towing responded to the scene and worked to clear the road after the crash, he added.
