The smell of pickles and mayonnaise filled the air Monday morning in Cibolo after an 18-wheeler was hit by a train, causing it to spill its load of condiments across the road.

Police said the truck got stuck on a high-center area of the tracks near Country Lane and FM 78 just before 7 a.m. and was unable to move out of the path of the train.

The driver was able to get out of the truck and tried to flag down the train before the collision. No one was injured.

Matt Schima, an officer with the Cibolo Police Department, described the incident  as a "condiment catastrophe." After the collision, pickles and mayonnaise coated the area.

Schima said the driver ignored signs warning drives that the area isn't a thoroughfare because of the high-center tracks. The driver was cited at the scene.

The area around the crash will be closed for several hours as crews clean up the spilled food.
