Thursday’s “First Call” gives us a potential destination for JuJu Smith-Schuster.
Two, actually. And some money projections as well.
Also, a tight end draft projection for the Steelers. Remembering the departure of a Steelers legend. And Tom Brady may have been overserved at the Super Bowl party in Tampa.
JuJu a Jet?
It’s long been rumored that when Steelers free agent wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster hits the open market, the New York Jets will be out front in the bidding process.
So for how much exactly? Well, Pro Football Focus projected Smith-Schuster to the Jets for four years at $68 million. That’s an average of $17 million per year. The website outlined the potential deal at “$35 million total guaranteed, $22 million fully guaranteed at signing.”
For what it is worth, PFF also has the Jets inking two other Steelers, running back James Conner and offensive lineman Matt Feiler. But it projects the Steelers keeping defensive backs Mike Hilton and Cameron Sutton.
However, it suggests that Alejandro Villanueva will go to the Los Angeles Chargers, Bud Dupree will wind up in Indianapolis with the Colts, and the Jacksonville Jaguars will bring back Tyson Alualu.
Speaking of returns, another prediction is that Arizona offensive tackle Kelvin Beachum comes back to Pittsburgh for one year at $4.5 million.
Or…
If Broadway doesn’t work out for JuJu’s constant “branding” needs, how about The Strip in Las Vegas?
Appearing on 93.7 The Fan Wednesday, NFL insider John Clayton suggested that the Raiders are “going to be moving on” the Steelers pass catcher as a potential free-agent target.
Clayton thinks that Smith-Schuster will be one of the top three or four receivers in free agency, potentially earning up to $14 million a year.
Smith-Schuster had 97 catches for 831 yards and nine touchdowns last year. Tight end Darren Waller was Vegas’ leading receiver in all categories. Second-leading receiver Nelson Agholor (48 rec., 896 yds., 8 TD) is also a free agent.
Party time in Tampa
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers celebrated their Super Bowl championship in a big way.
Well, as much as you can in a socially distanced era, I suppose.
Just ask Tom Brady. His footwork was a bit more, um, wobbly than it normally is on game day.
Noting to see her…just litTle avoCado tequila https://t.co/vew2otBw5T

How tipsy was Tom? Buzzed enough to toss the Vince Lombardi Trophy over water like it was a real football.

And whatever Brady didn’t drink, it appears Bruce Arians finished. Listening to his speech on live television was …
… well, let’s just say, not safe for one of those Nickelodeon broadcasts the NFL tried during the playoffs.
And that’s why the feed got cut on a local Tampa station.
Touting a tight end
Broadway Sports is reporting that the Steelers seemed to have an interest in a specific tight end at the Senior Bowl.
It’s Ole Miss product Kenny Yeboah.
You don't always see HC's and GM's sit in on prospect meetings at the Senior Bowl. But #Giants HC Joe Judge & #Steelers GM Kevin Colbert made sure to include themselves in their team's meeting with #OleMiss TE Kenny Yeboah.

He’s 6-foot-4, 247 pounds. The former Temple Owl caught 27 passes for 524 yards and six touchdowns, eight of which were good for 25 yards or longer.
Coming into the season, he had been labeled as the best pass-blocking tight end in college football.

Sports website Overtime Heroics’ comparison in the NFL is that of Rams’ tight end Gerald Everett, claiming, “Everett was very clearly the focal point of both offenses he played in while in college. He racked up a ton of receptions in just three seasons and put up monster numbers in his 2016 season. Yeboah, on the other hand, has never been the number one option, at both Temple and Ole Miss. With that in mind, Yeboah was able to put together a comparable collegiate career to someone drafted in the second round of the draft.”
So the next Waller? No. A younger and more athletic Vance McDonald to complement Eric Ebron? Maybe.
Don’t go, Joe?
On Wednesday, the Steelers tweeted the retirement speech of legendary defensive lineman “Mean” Joe Greene. It was the 39th anniversary of his decision to walk away from the game.
One of the best to ever do it.

Most associate the beginning of the Steel Curtain era of the Steelers with the drafting of Greene in 1969. Many associate the end with his retirement after the 1981 season.
“I came here as a boy and I’ll leave here as a man,” Greene said of his 13 years with the Steelers. “It has gone by so fast … We all bleed Pittsburgh Steeler. Just like I do. I really have loved it.”
Watch the whole speech. Or look up the words “nobility,” “sincerity,” “pride,” “appreciation” and “leadership.”
You may well see it there, too.
