PINEHURST, N.C. – Returning to the state of North Carolina this week proved to be extra special for 2020 Duke women's golf graduate Ana Belac as she claimed the wire-to-wire victory at the Carolina Golf Classic presented by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina at Pinehurst, No. 9.  

"I think it hasn't set in yet," said Belac.  "I am just really excited and happy.  I am just really grateful to compete at this level on this amazing course."

Belac, a product Portoroz, Slovenia, carded rounds of 66, 71, 70 and 74 for a seven-under-par, 281, to claim a four-stroke victory over Allison Emrey (285).  A two-time All-America at Duke, Belac hit 49-of-56 fairways on the week.  

"It had been a rough start learning how it works out here, but I think I got a grasp of things pretty quickly and got more comfortable playing on Tour, having a different schedule," Belac said. "I think that showed with better play the last couple of tournaments and I finally put four good rounds together."
Belac has six top-20 finishes in eight total starts in her rookie season, including one victory among three more top-10 finishes.

Since her Symetra Tour debut in July, Belac has made eight straight cuts on the tour and with the victory this week earned a $30,000 check to move her into second on the Symetra Tour money list with $47,132.  

"I really analyzed everything after the last few tournaments and saw where I need some work and what I need to improve," said Belac. "This week, I really focused on shot by shot and making a score every day and not thinking about the outcome at the end of four rounds. It was tough to do that today, but I was able to do it."

With the victory Saturday, Belac became the ninth Duke women's golfer to win on the Symetra Tour – Beth Bauer (4), Celine Boutier (2), Candy Hannemann (2), Liz Janangelo (2), Virada Nirapathpongporn (2), Leona Maguire (2), Kristina Engstrom-Tucker (1) and Yu Liu (1).

Belac will close the Symetra Tour Nov. 3-6 at the Symetra Tour Championship in Davidson, N.C.
