Hempstead, NY - Seven Hofstra University student-athletes – Michael Altmann (men's lacrosse), Shannon Boyle (women's lacrosse), Cami Larsson (field hockey), Frankie O'Brien (field hockey), Alyssa Parrella (women's lacrosse), Trey Rogers (wrestling), and Keegan Santos (men's lacrosse) – have been named to the 2020-21 Academic All-District® I At-Large First Team, selected by CoSIDA. The CoSIDA Academic All-America® program recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in August.
Altmann, a graduate student from Severna Park, Maryland, posted a 3.81 cumulative grade point average with a major in marketing after completing his undergraduate degree in management with a 3.57 cumulative grade point average. An All-Colonial Athletic Association First Team selection this season, Altmann totaled 37 ground balls and a team-leading 16 caused turnovers while posting eight points on three goals and five assists in all 14 games for the Pride. Altmann was named a Scholar All-American by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association and participated in the USILA North-South Senior All-Star Game.
Boyle, a native of Huntington, New York, majored in speech-language hearing studies with a minor in disability studies and compiled a 3.83 grade point average. The senior defender posted 22 ground balls, 13 caused turnovers, and 10 draw controls this season. She led Hofstra in caused turnovers, tied for the team lead in ground balls, and was sixth in draw controls. Boyle was a second team All-Colonial Athletic Association pick this past season as Hofstra advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2007.
A junior from Cordoba, Argentina, Larsson owns a 3.82 grade point average as a computer science and mathematics major. A midfield and defender, Larsson started all 12 games for Hofstra this past season and finished tied for second on the team with six points on two goals and two assists. She was an All-CAA Second Team selection and was named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division I National Academic Squad for the third time in her Hofstra career.
O'Brien, a senior from Plymouth Meeting, Pennsylvania, holds a cumulative grade point average of 3.61 as an English and secondary education major. She started all 12 games for the Pride this past spring and posted three points on one goal and one assist. Academically, O'Brien was named to the NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad for the fourth consecutive year. O'Brien also served as Hofstra's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee president.
Parrella, a finance major from Miller Place, New York, with a 3.43 grade point average, earned All-America honors from the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (third team), Inside Lacrosse (third team), and USA Lacrosse Magazine (honorable mention) this past season in addition to being a First Team IWLCA All-Region and All-CAA selection. One of Hofstra's most decoarated student-athletes, Parrella posted 63 points on 45 goals and 18 assists this season, while also adding 54 draw controls, 11 ground balls, and three caused turnovers. She led Hofstra in goals, points, and draw controls, and ranked second in assists and sixth in ground balls. Parrella, who was the fifth overall selection in the Athletes Unlimited Lacrosse College Draft, finished her career with 261 goals to rank 10th all-time in NCAA history. She also ranks 15th all-time in NCAA history with 355 points. The 261 goals and 355 points are both tops all-time in Hofstra and CAA history. Her 94 career assists ranks second at Hofstra and ninth in CAA history. Parrella closed her career with 196 draw controls to rank fourth in program history and seventh in the CAA.
A pre-medical studies major from Hastings, Minnesota, Rogers holds a cumulative grade point average of 3.92. The junior qualified for the 2021 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships by finishing fifth at 197 pounds at the 2021 Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association Championships. On the year, Rogers went 7-5 overall. Rogers was named a Scholar All-American by the National Wrestling Coaches Association for the second consecutive year, while he was a recipient of the EIWA Academic Achievement Award for the third year in a row. He was further honored for his work in the classroom with the Dr. James M. Shuart Award as Hofstra's top male scholar-athlete at the 2020-21 HOFSPY Awards.
A senior from Wilmington, North Carolina, Santos earned a 3.91 cumulative grade point average as a finance major. The defenseman was named to the All-CAA Second Team after starting all 14 games for Hofstra this season and recording 15 ground balls, four caused turnovers, and one goal.
